First Steps

I want to study abroad. How do I start the process?

Step 1: Come to a Study Abroad 101 session.  You only need to come to one.  They are held in 218 Administration Building on Mondays from 12 p.m. – 1 p.m. and Thursdays from 3 p.m. – 4 p.m. throughout the semester, and by appointment during the summer months and the January term.

Step 2: Meet with your academic advisor to discuss how study abroad fits into your academic plans at UMBC.  Review your degree audit to identify courses you could take overseas in order to fulfill graduation requirements for your major, minor, GEPs or electives.  Contrary to popular belief, study abroad does not delay graduation as long as you plan accordingly.

Step 3: Research different program options with the information you received at Study Abroad 101 and on our website.

Step 4: Meet with a study abroad advisor during walk-in hours to discuss your plans and application. Walk-in hours are posted on our homepage.

Step 5: Apply.
