Education Abroad Operations for the Spring 2020 Semester

Education Abroad services during UMBC’s online learning period due to COVID-19

We recognize that the COVID-19 crisis has created concerns and challenges among our students, their parents and support systems and international partners.  The UMBC Education Abroad Office remains committed to supporting each of you in the coming weeks and looks forward to providing many of our regular services in creative and technology-focused ways.

We are currently working remotely and have adopted the following measures to maximize the health and safety of our community while minimizing disruption to our services.

General Questions and Business Operations

Education Abroad staff will monitor email and telephone messages 8:30 AM – 5:00 PM Monday through Friday. Questions and requests will be routed to the appropriate staff member for response.  General questions can either be left on our voicemail at 410-455-8175 or sent to If you leave a voicemail, please leave a call back number and email so our staff can follow-up within 2-3 business days.




While many in-person events have been cancelled for the semester, some will still be held virtually. Please see our MyUMBC page for updated information.

Study Abroad 101 Sessions: These sessions will continue to be offered throughout the semester on an individual basis. Students interested in setting up a virtual Study Abroad 101 session, the first step to study abroad at UMBC, should email with 3-4 times over the next week that they can attend a virtual, 30-minute session.


Students interested in attending an advising session with an Education Abroad Advisor should email with 3-4 times over the next week that they can attend a virtual, 30-minute session. These students should have already completed the Study Abroad 101 requirement prior to this appointment.
