Eligibility

How do I know if I’m eligible to study abroad?

  • Students must be in good academic standing at the time of application and immediately prior to their term abroad. Students must have a minimum 2.5 GPA (each program has slightly different eligibility standards, certain individual programs have higher GPA requirements). Students who do not have the required GPA may contact the Education Abroad Office for special approval procedures.
  • Students currently on academic or judicial probation are not eligible for study abroad programs, and should wait until their academic or judicial situation improves before applying to a study abroad program.
  • Students must be enrolled in a degree seeking program at UMBC. UMBC faculty-led programs may be open to non-UMBC students. Freshmen and transfer students may study abroad after completing one semester at UMBC. Students must have completed a minimum of two full semesters in order to participate in a fall and/or spring semester education abroad program.
